For decades, the Mitsubishi 7700 pencil has been a cult favorite among anime and comic artists in Japan. In 2015, Mitsubishi announced that they were discontinuing ALL 7700 colors except for red. This sparked outrage and garnered quite a bit of press -- enough that Mitsubishi decided to keep the four most popular colors. Now, in 2021, it's been announced that the 7700 is being discontinued for good, due to difficulty securing the supplies needed to make. In June, production will stop, so stock up when you can! Mitsubishi Pencil Company (which is unrelated to Mitsubishi, the conglomerate), was founded in Tokyo in 1887 as the first Japanese pencil manufacturer. Though they’re still known for their quality pencils, Mitsubishi also makes a full range of highly innovative pens under the brand Uni, which stands for “Unique”.
