Description

There's a little bit of a story that goes with these ones, but we'll get to that. The 7700 pencil is a uniquely firm and strong colored pencil that literally says "STRONG NEEDLE POINT" on it. If you're looking for something colored and sharp, this is your new best friend.

For decades, the Mitsubishi 7700 pencil has been a cult favorite among anime and comic artists in Japan. In 2015, Mitsubishi announced that they were discontinuing ALL 7700 colors except for red. This sparked outrage and garnered quite a bit of press -- enough that Mitsubishi decided to keep the four most popular colors. Now, in 2021, it's been announced that the 7700 is being discontinued for good, due to difficulty securing the supplies needed to make. In June, production will stop, so stock up when you can! Or snag a four-pack to see what all the hype is about.

Mitsubishi Pencil Company (which is unrelated to Mitsubishi, the conglomerate), was founded in Tokyo in 1887 as the first Japanese pencil manufacturer. Though they’re still known for their quality pencils, Mitsubishi also makes a full range of highly innovative pens under the brand Uni, which stands for “Unique”.

    Super nice writing penci.

Wow! For a colored pencil with such a firm lead, these write amazingly smoothly! I would get another set of all 4 colors if they were available again. These were quite a pleasant surprise for me. I use colored pencils for art as well as in my work notes.

    Absolutely Superb Pencils

Published by Isabel B. on Apr 1st 2021

I LOVE these pencils. The red ones are perfect for making preliminary sketches, and the orange, green, and blue are perfect colors for adding highlights or thin "washes" of color. These pencils aren't as "creamy" or "smooth" as other colored pencils, but I have been looking for a colored pencil that is sharp and doesn't break easily. Maybe if more people buy them then M-B will decide to keep making them, but I'm definitely stocking up on as many as I can get my greedy hands on.
