Back in the 1930s, Eberhard Faber, a New York-based pencil company introduced their newest and greatest writing pencil: the Blackwing 602. What made it unique was its extra-smooth core (their slogan was "Half the pressure, twice the speed") and a flat, replaceable eraser, which was taken from an earlier model of drawing pencil called the Van Dyke. In short, it was the world's first super nice writing pencil. Though they were discontinued in the 1990s, the legend of the Blackwing has lived on through Palomino, a California-based company that revived the brand name with their own interpretation of the Blackwing in 2010.
The Blackwing Matte pencil is the softest version of the Blackwing. It's un-graded, but we estimate it to be about a 3B or 4B and recommend it for drawing.
