The Bugle is as simple as they come with its minimally finished barrel and solid #2 graphite core. Round pencils are a bit rare these days and this pencil is not only round but is also reminiscent of the round, unfinished pencils once made by John Thoreau and his son Henry David (yes, that Henry David Thoreau).
Shelbyville, TN was once known as “Pencil City,” as many pencil companies set up shop there in the early 20th century, due to the close proximity to an ample supply of red cedar. Now, there is only one remaining: our beloved Musgrave Pencil Company, which was founded in 1916. Family-owned and still making many of their famed heritage models, Musgrave is thriving as they re-invent what the American pencil can be in the 21st century.
