Possibly the best thing about pencils is they are a global tool - children all over the world use the humble pencil for school work. This set is a sampling of what kids across the globe use most commonly in the classroom.
Viking Skoleblyanten HB - Literally Danish for "school pencil," these yellow beauties sharpen excellently and have nicely balanced #2 graphite. Made in Denmark.
Nataraj Ruby 621 HB - With its iconic red and black stripes, the 621 has been a classic in India for decades - it even had its own commercial back in the 70s. Hindustan pencils (parent company of Apsara and Nataraj) still makes billions of these pencils every year. Made in India.
General's Semi-Hex 498 #2 - Based in Jersey City since 1889, General's Pencil Company has been manufacturing classically yellow #2s pretty much since their beginning. We consider Semi-Hex #2 to be the ultimate example of a nice, basic, tried and true #2 - the quality of the graphite and cedar hasn't wavered over time. Made in USA.
Shahson's Goldfish Autocrat #2 1/2 - We discovered this brand of pencils when customers from Pakistan came in sharing fond memories of using this pencil in school. We never tire of the amusing story of these pencils, from the funny origin of the name "Autocrat" (the company owner suspects "aristocrat" was the intended name), to the fact that they were formerly sandalwood scented, to the left-handed imprinting on the side. Made in Pakistan.
Staedtler Noris HB - These pencils may be made in Germany, but they are common in classrooms all across Europe. Known for their iconic yellow stripes and red tip, these pencils have excellent point retention and write a nice, crisp line. Made in Germany.
Mitsubishi 9800 HB - The 9800 is the oldest brand of pencil still manufactured by Mitsubishi. The 9800 line is considered to be their "entry" line of pencils, with simple detailing and super smooth graphite. Made in Japan.
Caran d'Ache Edelweiss HB - Can you believe these little red beauties are the supermarket-quality pencils in Switzerland? These are one of the most base-level pencils in the Caran d'Ache product range, but still stand a step above the average pencil because of their excellent quality graphite and cedar. Made in Switzerland.
