Richard Best, an American pencil maker of the mid-20th century is known mostly for one thing: creating the first triangular pencil. His patented Try-Rex shape is a soft triangle and is designed to be more comfortable to hold than a traditional hexagonal pencil. Though Richard Best Pencil Co. doesn't exist anymore, the Try-Rex is still made by Moon Products in Tennessee.
