Semi-Hex 498 #2 Pencil
This product is currently sold out.
This pencil is a nostalgic but currently manufactured version of the classic American yellow #2. Family-owned General Pencil Company has been making pencils in Jersey City, NJ since 1889 and is one of only three pencil companies still left in the United States. All of their pencils are made of high quality California incense cedar and are made to as high a standard as they were 100 years ago.
The Semi-Hex is the pencil we consider to be the most classic American pencil still in production. It used to be recognized by a distinctive purple band around its ferrule and for the colonial scene depicted on its box. The name comes from the subtlety of its shape--though hexagonal, the edges on the hex are softened. These features may not be quite the same anymore, it's still the pencil we use most as a benchmark for comparison in quality and graphite hardness.
Made in the USA
Grade: a true #2/HB

We measure the characteristics of the pencils we sell against a General's Semi-Hex #2, which is the pencil we consider to be a good quality pencil of true HB/#2 hardness, similar to that of most American #2 pencils. The swatch in this product listing reflects that.
