The Tombow Mono 100 pencil came to be in 1967 when it made its debut as the brand's new, highest quality pencil in its popular Mono product line. It was designed by famed Japanese designer Takashi Kono with its signature white stripe over the end, untarnished gold accents and blindingly shiny lacquer. All of that aside, what makes it especially unique is its smoothness--it contains a whopping 10 billion particles per cubic millimeter in its graphite core.

Though originally made for drawing, we love this pencil as an extra-premium option for writing as well. They run a little bit soft but have excellent point retention.

We measure the characteristics of the pencils we sell against a General's Semi-Hex #2, which is the pencil we consider to be a good quality pencil of true HB/#2 hardness, similar to that of most American #2 pencils. The swatch in this product listing reflects that.
